Dharma Co. Meditations Series #1

Dharma-Meditations-Inspiration

“The mind can go in a thousand directions, but on this beautiful path, I walk in peace. With each step, the wind blows. With each step, a flower blooms.” - Thich Nhat Hanh

A meditation is simply focusing your mind and breath on a thing for a few moments of time. It's bringing your mind from out there to in here. With proper breathing, it allows you to create stillness, which is helpful with life's countless ups and downs. We created the "Meditations" series to help you create stillness in your everyday life, so you can think, act, and feel with more clarity, purpose and intent. Enjoy, and please let us know if it helps you.

We're bombarded, every minute, by unwanted stimuli. Like the digital reminders that provide social validation, which we often use to deflect our loneliness. Even our own conscience is programmed to remind us that we're not being productive enough. Then we're hit with society's reminders that we are not good enough, not successful enough, not thin enough, or rich enough. That what we have is not plenty.

In fact, all of it is wrong. We are all interconnected, so we are never alone. All of us are loved, we don't need Facebook to tell us that we are liked. Productivity is a means to an end, just like money. Once our lives use either as an ultimate goal, we become hamsters on a wheel. What we have is enough. In fact, those who give feel like they have everything in the world.

For a moment, forget all of this and empty your mind into a vessel and be thankful for everything that is. Give thanks for our beautiful existence in the universe. Give thanks for being alive. Give thanks for your family and your friends and all those who love you - and love you they do. Give thanks for the shoes on your feet, the roof over your head, the food you eat, the clean water you drink. Then give thanks, for nothing at all.

Then, just be.

Take any thoughts that come wandering in and gently pour them into that vessel.

And be still.

Remember that this is a practice and there is no such thing as perfection.

And be still.

Once you're ready to resume your daily life, empty that vessel and use this meditation as a filter and discard thoughts of scarcity and negativity that don't serve you.

Practicing presence daily is known to increase happiness. Make a vow to practice 'is-ness' everyday to cleanse yourself.

Like a morning bath for the mind.
